Heaps<\/a>, the new chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/cycling\/committee\/index.htm\">Toronto Cycling Committee<\/a> announced today that the City will be doubling the number of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/cycling\/locker.htm\">bike lockers<\/a> around the city over the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the new locker locations will be at transit stops. &#8220;We want it to be similar to the Kiss-n-Ride program, only this is Bike-and-Ride. We want people to know that bikes are not the poor brother of the City and are in fact a major part of our environmental plan, and a major part of our transportation network.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The most immediate new installations will be at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gotransit.com\/PUBLICROOT\/station\/station.aspx?station=ROGO\">Rouge Hill GO station<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/parks\/parks_gardens\/cedarvale.htm\">Cedarvale Park <\/a>near the west entrance of St. Clair West subway station. There will be six new lockers at each location.<\/p>\n<p>The City will be installing more than 90 new bike lockers across the city in 2007. Currently, the City has 82 lockers in use, with about 54 people on a wait list. Lockers are available for $10 plus GST per month, for a minimum four-month duration and each locker has a unique key.<\/p>\n<p>Since July 2006, the City has installed lockers at nine locations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>City Hall (Elizabeth street)<\/li>\n<li>Exhibition Place<\/li>\n<li>371 Bloor West (at Spadina)<\/li>\n<li>Downsview subway<\/li>\n<li>Finch subway<\/li>\n<li>Toronto Island Ferry Terminal<\/li>\n<li>Metro Hall (King street)<\/li>\n<li>St. Lawrence Market<\/li>\n<li>OISE (252 Bloor Street)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/252\/523594779_cc8d455081_m.jpg\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/223\/523594771_eb60b307d4_m.jpg\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/190\/523594733_aab18f6c97_m.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Crossposted to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibiketo.ca\/node\/270\">I Bike TO<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Councillor A.A.
