I was visiting Israel for the first time last week, and had the pleasure of meeting Nisan, the graduate student who is organizing the first Jane’s Walks in Tel Aviv\/Jaffa<\/a> this year. He’s already recruited several other enthusiastic guides to explore the city this weekend. It’s remarkable how the Jane’s Walk idea has taken off around the world<\/a> in just a few years — the simplicity and flexibility of the concept makes it easy to adopt.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, here in the Toronto area over 170 walks are scheduled for this weekend. You can see the detailed schedule on the Jane’s Walk website<\/a>, but there’s also a handy, printable Jane’s Walk microschedule<\/a> (PDF).\u00a0 It’s easy to find a convenient walk near where you live — and also worthwhile to travel to find one that will explore a part of Toronto you’re unfamiliar with. The walks help us realize\u00a0 just how much there is to see in our vast city.<\/p>\n

Several Spacing<\/em> editors and columnists are leading walks this weekend, including Shawn Micallef<\/a>, John Lorinc<\/a>, Amy Lavender Harris<\/a>, and myself<\/a>.<\/p>\n
