Psychedelic Tree Stump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1137\/777476037_2e8794c648_o.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For nearly 10 years, <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&#038;hl=en&#038;geocode=&#038;q=Trinity-Bellwoods+Park,+toronto&#038;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&#038;sspn=52.505328,97.470703&#038;ie=UTF8&#038;z=16&#038;iwloc=addr&#038;om=1\">Trinity-Bellwoods Park<\/a> has been home to a psychedelic tree and wolf (officially known as the Universal Love Machine). Sometime yesterday afternoon it was cut down by the City. According to <a href=\"http:\/\/torontotreetours.ca\/node\/126\">Toronto Tree Tours<\/a>, the reason behind the tree&#8217;s felling was based on safety concerns, mostly centred on the decay at the base of the tree, &#8220;a process of disintegration caused by fungi and microorganisms that feed on the dead wood. As the wood is broken down the organic matter falls to the ground and is added to the soil to be taken up anew by growing plants.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The tree has gone through several incarnations over the years including a period of time when it was painted stark white, while on other occasions it has been decorated by jewelry and a stuffed squirrel.<\/p>\n<p>Spacing has created a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/groups\/universallovemachine\/\">group on Flickr<\/a> to memorialize the tree.
