The City Club of Toronto? Ideas and Experiences from Portland<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spacing<\/em> invites you out to an event we are helping organize promote.
\nTONIGHT! • Innis Town Hall • 7pm, free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Imagine meeting regularly with Torontonians who are passionate about civic issues. What if these citizens worked together in an organization devoted to nonpartisan education and research, community service, public affairs, and leadership development. And, what if there were regular events and forums, citizen-based research initiatives and reports, special programs, and issue committees, all dealing with issues of importance to our city, our region, our province and our country? Sound like a good idea? Perhaps it’s time that Toronto had a City Club.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday September 27th at 7pm in the Innis College Town Hall (University of Toronto, 2 Sussex Avenue), Wendy Radmacher Willis will share her experience with civic engagement and citizen-based research through her role as the Executive Director of the City Club of Portland<\/a><\/strong>. City Club advocates for a number of admirable causes, including a thorough report on how to rid Portland of billboards<\/a> [PDF 403k].<\/p>\n

The presentation will be followed by a discussion that will explore the question: should we form a City Club of Toronto? The evening will be moderated by Dr. Pamela Robinson, Assistant Professor, School of Urban and Regional Planning, Ryerson University. The evening is also co-hosted by the Urban Studies Student Union at the University of Toronto. <\/p>\n
