The photos above are screenshots from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.combinoplus.ca\/\">an animated video<\/a> Siemens Canada produced to sway the TTC&#8217;s commissioners and purchasing department. Its good to see Siemens hasn&#8217;t be entirely turned-off from doing business with the TTC after <a href=\"http:\/\/transit.toronto.on.ca\/archives\/weblog\/2006\/03\/23-is_thunder.shtml\">the controversial subway train dea<\/a>l that was awarded to Bombardier in 2006. The streetcars eventually purchased will also be used on the City&#8217;s proposed <a href=\"http:\/\/transitcity.ca\">Transit City<\/a> LRT plan.<\/p>\n<p>There is not much substance to the video, but it does provide us with an idea of what transit could look like in the near future.  Also, below is a little more info <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stevemunro.ca\/?p=496\">from Steve Munro&#8217;s blog about Siemens PR push<\/a> [ his links are to PDF downloads ] :<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>A wraparound ad on the August 16 issue of <\/em><em>24 Hours<\/em> extols Siemens new streetcars and refers readers to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.combinoplus.ca\/\">website with more information<\/a>. The layout has the earmarks of an ongoing advertising campaign with cheeky copy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><a title=\"Say hello to the streetcar that rings your bell.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stevemunro.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/24page1.pdf\">Say hello to the streetcar that rings your bell.<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><a title=\"Friendly\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stevemunro.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/24page2.pdf\">Introducing the Combino Plus.<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><a title=\"Stair Climbing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stevemunro.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/24page3.pdf\">Save your stair climbing for the gym.<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><a title=\"Lap Sitting\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stevemunro.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/24page4.pdf\">Sitting on a stranger&#8217;s lap is now optional.<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>The Siemens page includes an animated look at the Combino Plus car as proposed for Toronto including simulation of the car on the Spadina and Queen lines.  There is a link to a data sheet on the Lisbon version of the car as well as a non-functioning [as of noon on August 17]  link to a Melbourne presentation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A Siemens mockup is on view at the CNE grounds on Princes&#8217; Boulevard along with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bombardier.com\/en\/1_0\/1_1\/1_1_1_3_5.jsp\">Bombardier mockup<\/a> that appeared recently at Dundas Square. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>If you get bored with the streetcars, you can watch people getting fired out of a cannon.
