That was close! Had the streetcar proposal come to reality, we would have been subjected to problems such as enhanced streetscapes, faster public transit for tens of thousands, and a more pedestrian-friendly environment (St. Clair is like a highway as it is right now).

Toronto has traditionally been a public transit-friendly, forward thinking city. What happened?

The fact that SOS has to go as low as using the term ‘rapid transit’, even if it was wrongfully used by the TTC in the past, to win its case smells of desperation and shows just how few reasons it has for opposing such an opportunity.

I may not shop along St. Clair every day, but I can guarantee you I won’t be shopping there ANY day so long as there’s this kind of opposition to something so beneficial to not only the local neighbourhood(s) but also the city as a whole.

Regards,

And

Dear SOS

St. Clair does not belong solely to the businesses that line it. It does not belong solely to the residents who live there. It, like all streets, belongs to the entire city. Your views on this issue are elitist, individualistic, and short sighted. This street does not just belong to cars. It belongs to pedestrians, bicyclists, roller bladers, and, too transit.

So long as you continue to push for the blocking of the streetcar project I will be boycotting each and every one of the businesses in this area that support SOS.

Best Regards,
A former customer

Some folks are writing letters and calling up the SOS group to voice their displeasure in the way they’ve stopped City building.
