{"id":261,"date":"2005-10-19T01:20:34","date_gmt":"2005-10-19T05:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacingtoronto.ca\/?p=261"},"modified":"2005-11-10T17:21:12","modified_gmt":"2005-11-10T21:21:12","slug":"murmur-launches-on-spadina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2005\/10\/19\/murmur-launches-on-spadina\/","title":{"rendered":"[murmur] Launches on Spadina!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/murmurtoronto.ca\/murmur.gif\" alt=\"murmur\" align=\"right\"\/>Please join us tomorrow (Thursday Oct 20th) at Grossman&#8217;s Tavern (379 Spadina Avenue at Cecil) from 6-9pm for a (free) reception celebrating the launch of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.murmurtoronto.ca\">[murmur]<\/a> Spadina project with 50 new sites and nearly 150 new stories along the street. <\/p>\n<p>[murmur] has been recording Torontonians over the past few months telling parts of Spadina&#8217;s story in their own words. Some of the stories are anecdotal, other times historic, but always heartfelt. Find one of the familiar green [murmur] signs on Spadina, call the number on it with your mobile phone, and listen to a tale like sneaking into the Pickford Theatre at Queen and Spadina in the 1920s, ghost stories at the Bright Pearl restaurant and what it&#8217;s like to live on the 22nd floor, high above the street at 666 Spadina. Many of our stories also describe some of the social changes and political struggles that have occurred on our Spadina.<\/p>\n<p>[murmur] on Spadina is part of Toronto&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livewithculture.ca\">Live With Culture<\/a> program, and has  partnered with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ccnc.ca\/toronto\">Chinese Canadian National Council of Toronto<\/a> to help gather stories from the local Chinese community. If you feel a group is underrepresented in Toronto&#8217;s history, please put [murmur] in contact with the people who can help find folks who can share those stories. <\/p>\n<p>But do join us on Thursday at one of Toronto&#8217;s historic music venues (and [murmur] story site) and pick up our brand new Spadina map\/guide illustrated by Marlena Zuber (the artist behind both our Kensington and Annex maps and frequent contributor to <em>Spacing<\/em>).
