WHAT: Toronto Tree Tours: Mt. Pleasant Cemetery
\nWHEN: June 7, 1 pm – 3 pm
\nWHERE: Meet at the Yonge St. gates, just north of St. Clair Ave.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On this tour, Jack Radecki, venerated tree expert and the cemetery’s Supervisor of Arbour Services, will lead us through the celebrated tree collection of Mount Pleasant Cemetery, considered to be one of finest arboretums in North America. The tour will follow the meandering paths of the cemetery while Jack and arborist Todd Irvine discuss a selection of the hundreds of varieties of trees and shrubs found on the grounds, from the native sweetgum and shag bark hickory trees to the introduced Babylonian willow and silver linden. Participants will marvel at the astounding array of forms, textures, and colours found in this collection. Whether you are a curious admirer or a serious student, there is no better place in the city to experience the myriad of trees that will grow in our climate. Suggested donation: $5<\/p>\n

WHAT: At the Water’s Edge: Celebrating Canadian Rivers Day
\nWHEN: June 8, 1 pm – 4 pm
\nWHERE: Southwest corner of Queen St. and River St. <\/strong><\/p>\n

At the Water’s Edge is a walk and workshop exploring the history, present, and future of common access to the Lower Don River and the Waterfront at it’s mouth.\u00a0 This walk and workshop is about recognizing the role of the Don River in shaping Toronto, and how the city has, in turn, shaped the river. We want people to leave with a stronger connection to the river and a better understanding of how it has been influenced by channelization and by the way we all add pollution to our watersheds. Most importantly, we want people to imagine what the river could be: a clean, functioning ecosystem with enormous cultural value right in the heart of the city. This event is part of a celebration for Canadian Rivers Day, which aims to get Canadians thinking about and enjoying rives.<\/p>\n
