\nStart Point: <\/strong>Toronto Ferry Terminal, foot of Bay St behind Harbour Castle Westin Hotel – meet inside ferry terminal in waiting area (11:00 AM); or at Hanlan’s Point Ferry Dock (11:30 AM)<\/em> <\/strong><\/em>
\nFinish Point: <\/strong>Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts, Toronto Island<\/em>
\nDuration: <\/strong>Approx. 1 \u00bd to 2 hours<\/em> <\/strong><\/em>
\nWalk Difficulty: <\/strong>Long walk (about 2.5 km) on park grounds and paths, rough ground <\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In 2008, Toronto Island marks two significant anniversaries – 150 years since a violent storm turned what was a sand peninsula into an island; and 200 years since the lighthouse was built on Gibraltar Point. Explore the western portion of the Island from Hanlan’s to Gibraltar Point and hear how the landscape and use of the Island has changed dramatically over the years. Tours will be offered in English and French, with a special tour (in English) for school-aged children and their families.<\/em><\/p>\n

Bring a picnic lunch and join us after the tour for a 200th birthday celebration in honour of the lighthouse at the Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts, held in partnership with Toronto Parks & Recreation and Island residents. Festivities begin at 1:00 PM, with official remarks and a Heritage Toronto plaque presentation at 1:30 PM.<\/em><\/p>\n
