Yes, he left here over 60 years ago, but clearly he retains a sentimental attachment to the city. And yet he\u00a0has never designed a new building here. That could change &#8211; in a big way &#8211; if David Mirvish succeeds in building three very tall condo towers and two new galleries at <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.ca\/maps?hl=en&amp;q=300+king+street+west+toronto&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;hq=&amp;hnear=0x882b34d0e4a98f73:0xba666750935adec,300+King+St+W,+Toronto,+ON+M5V+1J2&amp;gl=ca&amp;ei=aqRpUImJNou90QGt94C4Cg&amp;ved=0CCcQ8gEwAQ\" target=\"_blank\">this location<\/a>, replacing the 2000-seat Princess of Wales Theatre and three adjacent loft buildings.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nomeancity.net\/frank-gehry-in-toronto\/\" target=\"_blank\">At No Mean City,<\/a> some models and images.<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nomeancity.net\/frank-gehry-in-toronto\/\" target=\"_blank\">Click here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mirvish says in a press release: &#8220;Our vision is a project that will encompass three distinct and remarkable residential towers that will be unlike anything that has been built in Toronto. They will be grounded by stepped podiums that will house a large, new public gallery called the Mirvish Collection, a new campus for the OCAD University, and planted terraces that will create a green silhouette overlooking King Street.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I support the vision and (more or less) the heights of these buildings at this extremely central location, which is rapidly transitioning to high-rise residential.<\/p>\n<p>One obvious question, as the real estate market crests, is: Will it happen? Gehry&#8217;s previous urban-scale proposals at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/06\/11\/nyregion\/11gehry.html:\/\/\" target=\"_blank\">Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldarchitecturenews.com\/index.php?fuseaction=wanappln.projectview&amp;upload_id=2095\" target=\"_blank\">Bunker Hill in LA<\/a> were not realized (aside from Disney Hall).
