\nAlana Boland is an associate professor in the Department of Geography and Program in Planning at the University of Toronto. Her research examines the changing relationship between the urban political economy and environment in Chinese cities.\u00a0 Her current work focuses on state regulatory initiatives aimed at improving urban environmental conditions, particularly at the community-level.\u00a0 She is also interested in the economic-environment nexus that influenced of the development of Chinese cities during the 1950s and 1960s. This talk is the first in a series of talks on Urban Asia at York University.<\/p>\n
