\nSon of Richard Nuetra, who is considered to have been one of modernism’s most significant architects, Dion Neutra took over his father’s practice in 1970. Dion has been instrumental in furthering his father’s legacy and countless preservation efforts in California.<\/p>\n

\nCentre for City Ecology: Exploring Cultural Landscapes<\/a>
\nUrbanSpace Gallery, 401 Richmond St. West | 6:00 – 8:00 pm<\/strong>
\nWhat gives a physical place meaning? How do we decide which historic sites are culturally significant? “Cultural Landscape theory” provides new answers to these questions. Julian Smith will explore the meaning of cultural landscape and how we create it in our communities. He will also examine how this approach has informed his own experiences as an architect and as an educator, and its ongoing impact on the heritage conservation field.<\/p>\n

\nB.E.S.T. Lecture: Sustainable Drainage<\/a>
\nDaniels Facutly, 230 College St., room 103 | 6:00 – 8:00 pm<\/strong>
\nLaura Solano is a Principal at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc., where she provides strong leadership in the development of the firm\u2019s ecological approaches to site design and site technology. Her presentation will demonstrate multiple ways in which drainage can be used as a resource in site design, improving ecological performance and landscape resilience.<\/p>\n

Transit of the Future<\/a>

\nGuest speakers Professor Matti Siemiatycki, who teaches Transportation Planning, and Professor Paul Bedford, the former Chief Planner of the City of Toronto, will each present their perspectives on the future of transit in Toronto.\u00a0 The floor will then be open for a round-table discussion, so feel free to bring your questions and comments on transit.<\/p>\n

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16<\/strong>
\nbulthaup Lecture: Ryue Nishizawa<\/a>
\nBahen Centre, 40 St. George Street, room 1160 | 6:30 – 8:00 pm<\/strong>
\nBorn in Tokyo in 1966, Ryue Nishizawa received his Master of Architecture degree from Yokohama National University. Ryue is a Professor at the Yokohama Graduate School of Architecture and is the recipient of international awards, including the Gold Lion at the 9th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2004, and the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2010. Significant Works include: the Teshima Art Museum, Weekend House (1998, Gunma), 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and Moriyama House (2002-05, Tokyo), among many others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
