I&#8217;ve never been to Calgary, so I&#8217;m looking forward to wandering around the core of the city, while I hope to get to drive out into the sprawling &#8216;burbs I&#8217;ve heard so much about.<\/p>\n<p>On these trips, I tend to walk furiously around the city photographing things like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spacing\/sets\/72157601349322702\/\">garbage\/recycling bins<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spacing\/sets\/72157601351259372\/\">street furniture<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spacing\/sets\/72157601351156622\/\">cycling infrastructure<\/a>, and other urban design elements (okay, I&#8217;m a bit weird). This usually results in a few posts here on Spacing Toronto and I suspect this trip will be no different. I&#8217;ve been told to see <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2008\/07\/31\/calgarys-scrambling-too\/\">a few places<\/a> by my friends, but I&#8217;d be happy to take suggestions from Spacing readers on parts of the city I should check out or details I should pay close attention to. Also free to leave me a message on my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=511375398&amp;ref=name\">Facebook profile<\/a> where I ask my &#8220;friends&#8221; for some travel advice.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll also be working in Vancouver next week. I have spent a lot of time in that city over the last decade and I always leave impressed with some new urban design ideas they are experimenting with, such as turning <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2007\/08\/17\/vancouvers-calms-and-reprioritizes-traffic\/\">a redundant block of a street into a parkette or allowing community groups to maintain gardens<\/a> in public boulevards and roundabouts.
