The exhibition “Post-Oil City: The History of the City’s Future,” as well as the accompanying catalogue edited by ARCH+, present innovative projects in Asia, Africa, and America that address urgent questions: How will the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy affect the process of urban planning and the city? How will the use of renewable energies affect urban metabolism and the politics of sustainability and mobility? By contrasting a dozen current projects in the field of sustainable urban planning with 9 from the past, the exhibition aims to show that many of today’s developments have their roots in the urban utopias of mid-20th-century modernism. Today, urban planners are returning to these concepts and adapting them to the challenges posed by climate change, a limited supply of fossil fuels, economic recession, and global systemic crisis.

WHAT: Ryerson University Presents: Toronto Forum
WHEN: May 7, 2013, 12:30 pm to 5:35 pm
WHERE:Canadian Urban Institute 555 Richmond Street W Suite 402
COST: Free

On Tuesday May 7, 2013 the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University will host an exceptional group of Canadian leaders on the topic of Toronto’s international competitiveness.
Visit their web site for more information.

WHAT: The Canadian Urban Forum / Le Forum urbain du Canada
WHEN: June 18 at 7:30 am and June 19 at 5:30pm, 2013
WHERE: Centre on Governance, University of Ottawa, 75 Laurier Avenue East, Ottawa, ON
COST: $316 – $475

The Canadian Urban Forum explores innovative ways publicly funded institutions are using to get infrastructure built.
