{"id":43457,"date":"2013-05-07T09:19:19","date_gmt":"2013-05-07T13:19:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/?p=43457"},"modified":"2013-05-07T10:33:57","modified_gmt":"2013-05-07T14:33:57","slug":"the-cycle-and-sole-rally-walking-and-biking-to-queens-park-for-pedestrian-and-cycling-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2013\/05\/07\/the-cycle-and-sole-rally-walking-and-biking-to-queens-park-for-pedestrian-and-cycling-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"The Cycle and Sole Rally &#8211; walking and biking to Queen&#8217;s Park for pedestrian and cycling safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday May 11, pedestrians and cyclists will converge on Queen&#8217;s Park from North, South, East and West for a rally to celebrate active transportation and encourage pedestrian and cycling safety.<\/p>\n<p>The walking component is the second annual <a href=\"http:\/\/thewalknrollcaravan.com\/Site_3\/Welcome.html\" target=\"_blank\">Walk and Roll Caravan<\/a>, which will start at St. James Park and walk to Queen&#8217;s Park\u00a0 along a modest 3.5 km route that highlights some pedestrian achievements (such as Ryerson&#8217;s new pedestrian mall on Gould St.) and pedestrian issues. The &#8220;roll&#8221; part refers to wheelchairs and strollers &#8212; as it is Mother&#8217;s Day weekend,\u00a0 parents and children are particularly encouraged to join.<\/p>\n<p>The group walk gathers at 12 noon in St. James Park (Jarvis and King). It will reach Queen&#8217;s Park by 2:00 pm, where it will join cyclists coming from North, East and West &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellsonyonge.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bells on Yonge<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bellsonbloor.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bells on Bloor<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bellsondanforth.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bells on Danforth<\/a> &#8212; for the <a href=\"http:\/\/cycleandsole.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cycle and Sole Rally<\/a>. Each of them is also gathering at 12 noon &#8212; check each website for the meeting location.<\/p>\n<p>The walking portion will be preceded by a &#8220;warm-up&#8221; walk presented by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.culturelink.ca\/programs\/community-connections\/mentorship-program\/neat\/\" target=\"_blank\">Newcomers Explore and Appreciate Toronto (NEAT)<\/a>. Newcomers to Canada will explore this historic part of the city and give their take on money, power and the Family Compact. This early walk meets in St. James Park at 10:30 am.<\/p>\n<p>(Warning: the TTC says there will be no service on the Yonge subway line between the Bloor-Yonge Station and Union station on Sat.
