In the mid 1800s, gardener George Leslie began a plant nursery business near the shores of Ashbridges Bay. Hear about his contribution to Toronto’s forest and gardens as well as stories of some of the other residents and businesses of this one-time postal village.<\/em><\/p>\n

After the tour, join Heritage Toronto, LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests), Councillor Paula Fletcher and local residents at the Leslieville Tree Festival (Celebrating 125 years of Leslieville joining the City of Toronto) in Leslie Grove Park at 12:00pm for a Heritage Toronto plaque presentation in celebration of George Leslie.<\/em><\/p>\n

Celebrate the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s development of the telescope and the International Year of Astronomy with this tour exploring Toronto’s astronomical heritage. Hear about the people and organizations who have contributed to the development of astronomy in Toronto, an international centre for astronomical research and education, on this stroll around the University of Toronto area.

Black Creek Historic Brewery Opens!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Black Creek Pioneer Village is pleased to announce the opening of Black Creek Historic Brewery – an authentic working reproduction of a 19th century brewery set in the heart of a beautifully recreated 1860s’ Ontario village. Toronto’s newest tourist destination uses traditional tools, techniques and recipes to recreate the ales, stouts and porters enjoyed in Upper Canada before Confederation. Because everything is done by hand on a small scale, the Black Creek Historic Brewery provides a unique opportunity for learning about beer and the brewing process. And visitors can complete the experience with a glass of Black Creek ale in the Brewery restaurant and pub.<\/em><\/p>\n
