Why isn&#8217;t the 192 Rocket promoted by the TTC, with maybe a little airplane icon above Kipling station on the subway map? Other then seeing people with luggage in tow every now and then on the Bloor-Danforth line, and the odd Air Canada flight attendant in full uniform, you&#8217;d never realize that the TTC was connected to the airport.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/02\/Kipling-plane.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47815\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/02\/Kipling-plane.png\" alt=\"Kipling station airport\" width=\"250\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Montreal, <a href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2010\/03\/13\/stm-to-finally-launch-airport-bus-service\/\" target=\"_blank\">the bus to the airport<\/a> was introduced in 2010 with a major ad campaign. The bus &#8212; numbered 747 &#8212; is painted brightly with the image of an airplane. As the bus makes its way through downtown Montreal and onto the highway toward Trudeau International, it becomes a moving billboard advertising itself as a viable transit option to the airport.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47781\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47781\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/02\/4429366057_38d62fc423.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-47781\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/02\/4429366057_38d62fc423-300x86.jpg\" alt=\"747 Bus STM\" width=\"300\" height=\"86\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/02\/4429366057_38d62fc423-300x86.jpg 300w, https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/02\/4429366057_38d62fc423.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47781\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 747 bus in Montreal. Image courtesy of STM.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I am definitely excited about the opening of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/upexpress.com\/en\/information\/information.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Union-Pearson<\/a>\u00a0express train in 2015. This city will benefit greatly from a direct route between its airport and central transit hub. At roughly $20-$30 per ride however, the UP Express <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/opinion\/commentary\/2013\/09\/10\/up_express_diesel_trains_and_missed_opportunities.html\" target=\"_blank\">won&#8217;t exactly be accessible<\/a> to every Torontonian. I do hope the UP Express doesn&#8217;t mean the end of taking the bus to the airport.<\/p>\n<p>And why is the TTC bus to the airport so secret anyways? It definitely affirms my suspicions that Toronto is thoroughly an Insider&#8217;s city. We Torontonians like our secrets. Our gems are accessible, but you&#8217;ve got to find them yourself. We have a great ravine system, but its trails remains largely unmarked. And just try to make your way through the PATH system for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>So, apologies for breaking Torontonian code by exposing the express airport bus to the internet masses.
