For years, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ideasthatmatter.com\/people\/2005steve.html\">Steve Munro<\/a> has been a thorn in the side of TTC commissioners and management. The transit activist was recently awarded the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ideasthatmatter.com\/people\/jj-prize.html\">Jane Jacobs Prize<\/a>, an award created to &#8220;discover and celebrate Toronto&#8217;s original, unsung heroes &#8212; by seeking out citizens who are engaged in activities that contribute to the city&#8217;s vitality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Munro has started <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stevemunro.ca\">his own blog<\/a> on transit issues, and we at <em>Spacing<\/em> couldn&#8217;t be happier to have his intelligent voice added to the blogsphere. His <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stevemunro.ca\/?p=38\">current post<\/a> about the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/?p=355\">subway station makeovers<\/a> is right on the mark. While <em>Spacing<\/em> is certainly a booster of the city&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/buttons.htm\">subway station designs<\/a>, I must whole-heartedly agree with Mr. Munro that these re-designs could just be make-work projects for people like Jack Diamond, and only help gloss over real problems facing the TTC.
