{"id":5538,"date":"2009-07-16T12:00:15","date_gmt":"2009-07-16T16:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacingtoronto.ca\/?p=5538"},"modified":"2013-01-21T15:25:44","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T20:25:44","slug":"the-real-hug-me-tree-returns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2009\/07\/16\/the-real-hug-me-tree-returns\/","title":{"rendered":"The real Hug Me Tree returns!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"hug me tree\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2486\/3726472585_90bd659480_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"321\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Hug Me Tree, the infamous tree stump on Queen West at Peter and <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2008\/08\/11\/if-a-graffiti-trees-falls-on-queen-west-will-anyone-notice\/\">felled almost one year ago<\/a>, has returned to it&#8217;s original location.<\/p>\n<p>Since Nuit Blanche in 2008, a <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2008\/10\/05\/nuit-blanche-2008-impressions-part-ii\/\">paper mach&eacute; version of the tree<\/a> had occupied the original tree&#8217;s place. During that time, the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2008\/08\/12\/queen-west-hug-me-tree-finds-a-new-home\/\">tree was moved<\/a> to a gallery, and plans were hatched to weather-proof the tree and figure out a system that could keep it in place on the sidewalk. While a network of roots used to keep the tree upright, a metal plate now occupies the base for added balance, sturdiness, and durability.
