The response from City staff quoted in the Star seems defensive.<\/p>\n<p><a target=blank href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/NASApp\/cs\/ContentServer?pagename=thestar\/Layout\/Article_Type1&#038;c=Article&#038;cid=1122331505999&#038;call_pageid=968350130169&#038;col=969483202845&#038;DPL=IvsNDS%2f7ChAX&#038;tacodalogin=yes\">Lawsuits cost city $49 million<\/a> reveals the City&#8217;s Lawsuit settlement history.  It turns out that about half the settlements &#8212; $24.3 million &#8212; were agreed to by the City&#8217;s transportation division.  Primarily claims by pedestrians who have fallen on icy or snowy streets.
