Do not be fooled &#8212; the extension is not just a move to ease the traffic problems of Toronto&#8217;s northern communities. Its to spur development (and increase the tax base). Politicians and developers are drooling over the possibilities of building a bustling city centre for Vaughan at Highway 7 and Jane. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/NASApp\/cs\/ContentServer?pagename=thestar\/Layout\/Article_Type1&#038;c=Article&#038;cid=1144705811689&#038;call_pageid=968350130169&#038;col=969483202845\">Read the <em>Toronto Star<\/em> article<\/a> about this topic in today&#8217;s paper.<\/p>\n<p>All of us concerned with smart and sustainable development in the GTA region should keep a close eye on &#8220;downtown&#8221; Vaughan&#8217;s growth. It has the possibility of becoming another downtown North York (read <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/?p=651\">previous Spacing Wire post and comments<\/a> if you need further explanation).
