{"id":731,"date":"2006-04-27T14:51:36","date_gmt":"2006-04-27T18:51:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacingtoronto.ca\/?p=731"},"modified":"2006-04-27T15:58:41","modified_gmt":"2006-04-27T19:58:41","slug":"torontos-festival-of-architecture-and-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2006\/04\/27\/torontos-festival-of-architecture-and-design\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto&#8217;s Festival of Architecture and Design"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/fad\/images\/fad_logo_350p.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The City of Toronto&#8217;s <strong>Festival of Architecture and Design<\/strong> is now underway and will run until the end of May. <em>Spacing<\/em> has two events during the festival &#8212; the first being our <strong>transit issue release party<\/strong> on Tuesday May 2nd at the Gladstone Hotel (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/in-this-issue.htm\">click here<\/a> for more details); the other event is the second annual <strong>Toronto the Good<\/strong> party at Fort York that we host along with [murmur] and ERA Architects (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.torontothegood.org\/\">click here<\/a> for more details).<\/p>\n<p>If you want to see all of the events that are going on during the festival, go the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/fad\/\">FAD web site<\/a> and check out <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/fad\/eventlistings\/index.htm\">the calendar of events<\/a>. We&#8217;ll try to post as many events as possible on the Spacing Wire throughout FAD&#8217;s duration.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, you can check out the opening of <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mercerunion.org\/SL\">Stellar Living<\/a><\/strong> from the folks at Mercer Union for $5 &#8212; FYI, the event will be held at Shaw Public School (<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&#038;hl=en&#038;q=180+Shaw+St.,+Toronto+ON&#038;om=1\">180 Shaw St.<\/a>) not the gallery space as usual. Stellar Living is a &#8220;two-week long celebration featuring 50 local, national and international artists&#8217;, designers&#8217; and architects&#8217; vision of contemporary urban style, in a former school and architectural gem.&#8221; The exhibition is free starting tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday<\/strong> will be the first of numerous <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heritagetoronto.org\/\">Toronto Heritage<\/a>  walks throughout May. Starting at Osgoode Hall at 10am, the 2-hour tour will trace <strong>the development of University Avenue<\/strong> as a &#8220;ceremonial boulevard.&#8221; Highlights include landmarks such as Osgoode Hall, the Canada Life Building, and the public institutions that make up hospital row. On <strong>Sunday<\/strong> at 1:30 pm, you can experience <strong>The Splendour That Was Sherbourne Street<\/strong>. Starting at Sherbourne Subway Station and ending at Allan Gardens, this free event recounts how Sherbourne Street in the 1880s was considered to be one of the most fashionable streets in Toronto. This 3 hour tour shows glimpses of its noble past through its architecture &#8212; grand homes built for wealthy businessmen, row housing for middleclass trades people and imposing churches.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Toronto&#8217;s Festival of Architecture and Design is now underway and will run until the end of May.
