{"id":738,"date":"2006-04-30T13:25:07","date_gmt":"2006-04-30T17:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacingtoronto.ca\/?p=738"},"modified":"2006-04-30T14:31:04","modified_gmt":"2006-04-30T18:31:04","slug":"pugly-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2006\/04\/30\/pugly-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Pugly Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puglytoronto.com\/images\/logo.gif\" \/>For the second time, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.puglytoronto.com\">The Pugly Awards<\/a> let you give the thumbs up, or thumbs down, to Toronto buildings completed in the last year.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Pugly Awards were established to raise the level of architectural and planning standards with the goal of giving Toronto a more beautiful face.<\/p>\n<p>The Puglys are different. They are awards that are judged, not by architects, developers, planners and the like, but by the public\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6people like you, who want to make our city more beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations for the 2006 Pugly Awards include all commercial, institutional and residential buildings that are greater than 50,000 sq ft completed \/ registered in 2005. The Pugly Awards will be presented to the creators (architects, planners, developers) of the good, the bad and the downright ugly buildings in the former City of Toronto.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The awards will be given out on June 6th at the Gladstone, so vote now. Last year some horrible buildings, like the French Quarter below (a building so awful it doesn&#8217;t even fit on the lot it&#8217;s built on), got &#8220;thumbed up&#8221;. This year there are some very good buildings to vote on, so perhaps the results will skew in favour of the Radio City&#8217;s, 18 Yorkville&#8217;s and U of T&#8217;sCentre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research (the building with trees growing inside on the upper floors).<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.puglytoronto.com\/2005\/french.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the second time, The Pugly Awards let you give the thumbs up, or thumbs down, to Toronto buildings completed in the last year.
