WHAT<\/strong>: 5th Annual Human River<\/p>\n

WHEN<\/strong>: Sunday, October 25 @ 1pm<\/p>\n

WHERE<\/strong>: Meet at 12:30pm at the Pavilion at Christie Pits<\/p>\n

Human River<\/a> is an ongoing Toronto Public Space Committee<\/a> (TPSC) community campaign, celebrating Toronto’s largest buried river, Garrison Creek.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

As Garrison Creek rushes under homes, cafes, roads and parks, we find signs of this lost river in tilting houses, dips in streets, buried bridges and a string of green valleys. Since 2005, Human River has hosted a range of eclectic events, including: art shows, film screenings, arts and education workshops, and a school outreach program.<\/em><\/p>\n

TPSC is excited that Human River, the committee’s only annual event, will resurface for a 5th year of fun and interactive storytelling. “Along the route, participants will have the opportunity to discover over a dozen intersections of history, architecture, memories, rumours, city-planning and merry-making” says Human River co-ordinator Erin Wood.<\/em><\/p>\n

“New this year, there will be a chance for walkers to play with an art installation by “wade”, to join a discussion on the future of Human River at Fort York, and to learn from Lost Rivers and Kevin Plummer of Historist. Plus there will be t-shirts, buttons and maybe even a surprise appearance by the river goddess herself!” says <\/em>HTO:Toronto’s Water from Lake Iroquois to Lost Rivers to Low-flow contributor Georgia Ydreos.<\/em><\/p>\n

With everyone wearing blue we will become a human river bringing the Garrison Creek back to life!<\/em><\/p>\n

This Sunday’s Human River walk begins at the Pavillon in Christie Pits Park at 1:00 pm. Participants wishing to join the walk half-way may do so at the south-east corner of Trinity Bellwoods Park at 3:17pm. Human River walk concludes in Historic Fort York’s Blue Barracks where a closing reception begins at 4pm.<\/em><\/p>\n
