{"id":869,"date":"2006-06-11T18:05:20","date_gmt":"2006-06-11T22:05:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacingtoronto.ca\/?p=869"},"modified":"2006-06-12T17:09:52","modified_gmt":"2006-06-12T21:09:52","slug":"869","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2006\/06\/11\/869\/","title":{"rendered":"Pressure from West-end Waterfront residents working on Watson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/images\/map.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In April, the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/?p=719\">Spacing Wire reported<\/a> on a plan to turn some waterfront parkland near the newly renovated Palais Royale into a parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parkdaleliberty.ca\/\"><em>Parkdale Liberty<\/em> is reporting<\/a> (scroll down &#8212; June 3, 2006) that the plan has been reconsidered in light of vehement local opposition. The city is instead going to try suggestions made by citizens at a public meeting on the subject.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><!--StartFragment -->The City is now considering putting parking on the median in front of the Palais. However, the restored Palais is slated to open in June, and the median parking lot would not be ready for six months.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the City is considering allowing the Palais to employ a pre-existing public parking lot to the west of the facility on event days &#8212;- at least for the summer, when golf carts could ferry guests between the facility and the lot.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure how far away this existing parking lot is, but is it so difficult to imagine visitors could consider simply walking along the beautiful lakefront park to the Palais Royale from the parking lot?
