And it&#8217;s going to be integrated with a York Region Cycling and Pedestrian Master Plan. It&#8217;s good to see that suburban municipalities are beginning to embrace sustainable transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some details, for any Wire readers in Markham:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You are invited to a public open house concerning the Town of Markham &#8212; Cycling Master Plan Study!<\/p>\n<p>Date: Thursday June 29, 2006<br \/>\nTime: 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.<br \/>\nLocation:  Civic Centre 101 Town Centre Blvd. (Warden and Hwy. 7).<\/p>\n<p>In response to the growing popularity of cycling as a recreational activity and a mode of transportation for short distance trips, the Town of Markham is creating a Cycling Master Plan, which includes the signing of over 100 km of on-road cycling routes. This first element of the network was approved by Council in 2005 and will be implemented over the summer and fall of 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The Town is moving forward with a comprehensive Town-wide on and off-road cycling network study that will be coordinated with the recently launched Region of York Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan study. Once these studies are complete and the networks ultimately implemented the facilities will serve both the urban and rural areas of Markham and connect to adjacent municipalities in York Region.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Encouraging news &#8212; the City of Markham is developing a cycling plan, including transportation as well as recreation.
