Welcome to west coast readers on the brand new Spacing Vancouver!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spacingmedia.com\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-vancouver.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Vancouver Public Space Network <a href=\"..\/2011\/06\/30\/thoughts-on-the-top-ten-list-of-vancouvers-public-spaces\/\">responds<\/a> to the selection of Vancouver&#8217;s top ten spaces in the current issue of the <em>Spacing Magazine <\/em>with a reflection of what the selection says about our psyche towards public space.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Toth launched the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/http\/\/spacingvancouver.ca\/2011\/06\/30\/the-biggest-baddest-bike-share-in-the-world-hangzhou-china\/\">Video Vancouver<\/a> <\/em>feature  this week with a link to an incredible video about the hugely  successful and innovative bike share program in the historic city of  Hangzhou, China. The program aims to expand to 175,000 bikes by 2020.<\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"sm\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-montreal.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Regional planning was a big theme on the Montreal blog this week as organizers push forward with <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/06\/27\/countdown-to-walk-the-region\/\">Walk the Region<\/a>,  a three day walking tour across the entire Montreal Region from Oka to  Mont Saint-Hilaire. Alanah Heffez also provided an update on a <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/07\/01\/walk-the-region-danger-extreme-a-laval\/\">snag<\/a> in planning for the event while Joel Thibert used <em>The Regionalist <\/em>column to make the case for why Montreal needs a <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/06\/30\/the-regionalist-why-we-need-a-regional-plan\/\">regional plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Alanah Heffez looks into the seemingly curious tradition of Montreal&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/06\/30\/celebrating-montreal-moving-day-since-1750\/\">July 1st moving day <\/a>by examining the day&#8217;s origins over 260 years of advocacy for tenant&#8217;s rights.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"so\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-ottawa.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While researching the best<a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/ottawa\/2011\/06\/27\/the-airport-bikeway-is-already-here-the-city-just-doesnt-want-you-to-know-it\/\"> cycling route to the Ottawa airport<\/a> Eric Darwin discovers the best way is not one mapped by the City but  one where space for cyclists exists in practicality but isn&#8217;t officially  recognized.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"sa\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-atlantic.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Crystal Melville reflects on her experiences riding Halifax&#8217;s Metro Transit and profiles <em><a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/2011\/06\/28\/events-guide-its-more-than-buses\/\">It&#8217;s More Than Buses<\/a>, <\/em>a  series of events centered around creating a new transit vision for the  city focusing on exploring the options, designing the network and  mobilizing public support.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"More...\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/07\/02\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"st\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/ottawa\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-toronto.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As part of the upcoming bicentennial of the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/06\/28\/fort-york-dig-scraping-back-the-layers\/\">War of 1812<\/a>,  a team of archeologists have begun searching for the ruins of  Government House in the heart of Fort York.
