Image courtesy of Byron Barrett. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2360\" title=\"NeighbourhoodWatch_logo\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/network\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/NeighbourhoodWatch_logo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"72\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Burnaby Food Swap that started last year is growing. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burnabynow.com\/life\/Food+swap+event+continues+grow\/6764271\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">Their third event<\/a>, slated for July 5, is going to allow for more participants with a new location.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/158496765.html\" target=\"_blank\">18-month moratorium<\/a> on the acquisition of new parkland has been declared by Metro Vancouver putting in jeopardy the planned Experience The Fraser trail network and other pledged upgrades to regional parks.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/158874405.html\" target=\"_blank\">seven-storey mixed-use development proposed for the Lower Lonsdale<\/a> neighbourhood, is proving to be an interesting case of how the city currently decides what type of amenity contributions it will seek from developers and what contributions are considered most beneficial to the community.<\/p>\n<p>The developing trend of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/158720245.html\" target=\"_blank\">commercial waste haulers trucking the garbage to private landfills<\/a> outside Metro Vancouver to avoid high tipping fees and disposal bans has alarmed Metro Vancouver staff and politicians because every load of garbage that leaves the region means less money is collected to support the fixed costs of the waste management and recycling system. This, in turn, is forcing those fees to climb higher for everyone else.<br \/>\nSurrey council has suggested it will back down from cracking down on houses with multiple suites and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/158968365.html\" target=\"_blank\">explore the possibility of allowing them<\/a> in areas of the city zoned specifically for that purpose.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.
