If you area near Shawnigan, Ladysmith or Cowichan Lake tomorrow be sure to catch the Island Spirit 2012 Geocaching Mega-Event<\/a>! With about 675 registered participants from around the world already signed up and an estimated total of 1,000 geocachers expected in Cowichan by the time the big event kicks off, it’s sure to be a lot of fun. It’s part of the WestCan series of events that promote rural economic development, and is being run in conjunction with Duncan’s centennial festivities.<\/p>\n

The search to locate a new waste-to-energy (WTE) plant to consume more of the region’s garbage moves ahead as Metro Vancouver launches an informal 90-day process to identify potential sites and operators<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The request for proposals for the construction of a homeless shelter and transitional housing facility in the Coquitlam<\/a> closed Monday and RainCity Housing, which will operate the shelter planned for 3030 Gordon Ave., will now sift through 10 to 20 applications from a number of architects.<\/p>\n

Consequently, it is also splitting concrete in the footings of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge and infesting a Burnaby section of the $3.3-billion Port Mann\/Highway 1 expansion project<\/p>\n

Despite issues around funding, the proposed Experience the Fraser trail network running across the Lower Mainland will add a leg down the north arm of the Fraser River between Richmond and Vancouver<\/a>, while existing trails along both sides of the Coquitlam River in Colony Farm Regional Park will also be designated part of Experience The Fraser.
