\nThis summer the Burnaby Art Gallery presents The Moveable Feast, a public project by Vancouver artist Holly Schmidt. The Moveable Feast is a series of workshops, edible events, free youth programs, and a vegetable garden in Deer Lake Park. The Moveable Feast responds to the current global mobility of food in the context of rapidly dwindling food varieties.For the month of August there will be a series of workshops focused on preparing and sharing food.<\/p>\n

Food Swap and Pickling Demo<\/em><\/p>\n

Sat. Aug 18th, 2-4pm, FREE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Join Roberta LaQuaglia, from the Vancouvers Farmers Market and Holly Schmidt for an afternoon of food swapping. Come prepared with food you\u2019ve canned, pickled, baked or grown to trade with others. Spread out your picnic blanket and wares and begin swapping.\u00a0For the uninitiated, chef Andrea Potter will offer a pickling demonstration.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Simple Cheese and Yogurt making<\/em><\/p>\n

Sun. Aug 19th, 1-4pm, $30<\/strong><\/p>\n

Join organic farmer and cheese maker, David Asher Rotsztain to learn the basics of making yogurt and soft-bodied cheese curds. He focuses on natural, fresh cheese making that is hands-on, non-GMO and without unnecessary additives. You\u2019ll be surprised what you can make with a gallon of good milk and a bit of dedication.<\/p>\n

Fermented Beverages<\/em><\/p>\n

Sat. Aug 25th, 2-4pm, $55<\/strong><\/p>\n

Join chef Andrea Potter to learn about traditional fermented beverages used for centuries to aid digestion and as a health tonic.\u00a0 In this workshop, you\u2019ll make old fashioned, wild-fermented sodas, using herbs and local fruits and Kombucha, a popular tea beverage with herbal variations from the garden.\u00a0 This workshop includes nutrition information, recipes, tasting and hands-on. You also get to take *kombucha starter to make it at home!<\/p>\n

*Please bring 1 small jar to take home your kombucha starter.<\/p>\n
