Friday, September 21st<\/strong>: Park(ing) Day<\/em> – https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/413001655429472\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Providing temporary public open space . . . one parking spot at at time.<\/p>\n

PARK(ing) Day is a annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into \u201cPARK(ing)\u201d spaces: temporary public places. The project began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. Since 2005, PARK(ing) Day has evolved into a global movement, wit
\nh organizations and individuals creating new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world.<\/p>\n

The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat \u2026 at least until the meter runs out!<\/p>\n

Vancouver Public Space Network has participated in PARK(ing) Day since 2008 and has transformed parking spaces into grassy lawns, en plein air art spaces, dance halls and even your parent’s rec room! This year we’re at it again, and we’re bringing the fun to one of the most car-centric, yet iconic streets in Vancouver… Kingsway! Come join us!<\/p>\n

Sunday, September 23rd<\/strong>: Main Street Mosey<\/em>  – https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/519297961430139\/<\/a><\/p>\n

How cool would it be to say that you walked across an entire city, from end to end? Here’s your chance! Join the Vancouver Public Space Network for a unique adventure, by walking Main Street, *all* of Main Street, from Crab Park on Burrard Inlet all the way down to the Fraser River.<\/p>\n

This is not a guided tour, but just an opportunity to share in the communal experience of a cross-town stroll, down the whole of Vancouver’s true north-south spine. Admire the diversity of Vancouver’s beautiful neighbourhoods, from the Downtown Eastside, through Chinatown and Mount Pleasant, all the way down to Riley Park and Sunset. (And cross “I Walked Across Vancouver” off from your bucket list!)<\/p>\n

We’ll be meeting at the beach in Crab Park, with a planned departure of 1pm sharp. Estimated walking time – about 3 hours. (And yes, there’ll be chances for coffee and bathroom breaks along the way.) When the walk is over, there is transit nearby to get home, at Main & Marine, or a few minutes walk to Marine Drive Station on the Canada Line.<\/p>\n

>From water’s edge to water’s edge, this will be a fun, relaxed event. Everyone’s welcome – bring your friends and your cameras, and your most comfortable walking shoes! If you’re a fan of casino slots, you can also take the experience with you wherever you go by enjoying them online.
