Continuing the initiative they tested over the summer, the university will be inviting\u00a0some of the best local food cart vendors to the Burnaby Mountain campus to serve street cuisine to students every Thursday for its Street Eat Thursday.\u00a0 Bon appetit students!<\/p>\n<p>No shortage of coverage on this topic&#8230;.but for those who have been living under a rock: Premier Christy Clark is pledging to begin work to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/171827641.html\" target=\"_blank\">replace the George Massey tunnel <\/a>with a new tolled bridge or tunnel to ease intense traffic congestion on Highway 99 in Metro Vancouver.\u00a0 As one can imagine, this spurred some heated criticism from <a href=\"http:\/\/pricetags.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/01\/the-massey-tunnel-announcement-motordom-unconstrained\/\" target=\"_blank\">experts<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouversun.com\/news\/metro\/Crossing+could+cost+farmland\/7338602\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">locals<\/a> alike.<\/p>\n<p>On a similar note, Christy Clark continued her generosity as she also promised an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/171831211.html\" target=\"_blank\">additional $509 million over 10 years to continue four-lane improvements<\/a> to the Trans-Canada highway between Kamloops and the Alberta border. One can&#8217;t help but get the I get the sense that she has a real affinity for cars.<\/p>\n<p>Great news for Surrey folks, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouversun.com\/technology\/Full+steam+ahead+Surrey+organic+waste+collection+program\/7327948\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">Rethink Waste<\/a> &#8211; the city-wide automated cart collection program &#8211; that encourages single-family residents to separate kitchen waste from garbage and recyclables into three colour-coded bins rolled out. The organic waste collected through this new program is intended eventually to be converted to fuel for garbage trucks.<\/p>\n<p>Meat-lovers be cautioned: a UBC food safety specialist has found that provincially licensed slaughterhouses are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/news\/british-columbia\/bc-slaughterhouses-not-testing-for-pathogens\/article4583820\/?cmpid=rss1\" target=\"_blank\">not testing for pathogens<\/a> should such as E. coli or listeria to their inspection regimes.<\/p>\n<p>The process for constructing the Evergreen Line continues with the the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure announcing that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/172702541.html\" target=\"_blank\">SNC-Lavalin Inc<\/a>. &#8211; the company that built the Canada Line and oversaw the project design and management of SkyTrain &#8211; has been selected to build the new $1.4-billion line.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.
