They finished with a total count of 49 deer, more than double the spring count.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s worth $5 million? Apparently the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/177020671.html\" target=\"_blank\">furniture for the new Surrey city hall<\/a> being built in the City Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Beware dog owners&#8230;.Metro Vancouver is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouversun.com\/life\/Metro+considers+measures+regulate+park+users+including+dogs\/7502122\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">cracking down on dangerous and aggressive dogs<\/a>!\u00a0 Proposed measures will include\u00a0 allowing park operators to demand leashes and muzzles, as well as the ability to fines people as high as $1,000 on misbehaving canines. On top of allowing operators to deal with aggressive dogs, the move is also intended to a number of new users and recreational activities such as longboarders, kitesurfers and electric wheelchair users.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Speaking of Metro Vancouver, they are also considering how to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/177942471.html\" target=\"_blank\">crack down on wood-burning fireplaces<\/a> after concluding that wood smoke from home fireplaces and stoves may pose a significant health risk&#8230;.just in time for the holiday season!<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunate news for those interested in Nanaimo&#8217;s industrial heritage as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/176459911.html\" target=\"_blank\">two century-old dams at Colliery Dam Park are scheduled for removal<\/a> within the next year over and above the draining of existing lakes, in order to eliminate a potential flooding hazard in populated areas downstream.<\/p>\n<p>Some celebration in Coquitlam this week with the approval by the provincial government to move forth with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/177758471.html\" target=\"_blank\">plan to rezone eight lots at Parkland elementary school for housing<\/a> and raise funds for future capital projects.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Surrey has postponed a vote on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/177754971.html\" target=\"_blank\">proposed housing development in South Surrey&#8217;s\u00a0North Grandview Heights neighbourhood<\/a> that would require cutting down\u00a0 533 \u201chigh value\u201d trees.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.
