Transit employees <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/185954181.html\" target=\"_blank\">threaten to shout down the Greater Victoria&#8217;s public transportation system<\/a> on Jan. 22 unless B.C. Transit returns to the bargaining table.<\/p>\n<p>A $63.2-million contract has been awarded to PCL Constructors Westcoast\u00a0to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/185953601.html\" target=\"_blank\">replace the 88 year old Johnson Street Bridge<\/a> in Victoria, connecting downtown with Victoria West. The contract leaves about $2.8 million to cover unanticipated costs and keep the project&#8217;s overall budget within its $92.8-million cap.<\/p>\n<p>A proposed dock at Five Mile on Kootenay Lake has locals upset about losing access to a popular beach&#8230;..and this has spurred <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/185759701.html\" target=\"_blank\">a social media campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/185953841.html\" target=\"_blank\">Walmart-anchored shopping mall<\/a> along Richmond&#8217;s West Cambie are back at the Hall, after city council&#8217;s planning committee ordered staff to do more work on the file last month. It continues the ongoing saga that began 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Main Street-Science World will be<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouversun.com\/news\/metro\/SkyTrain+users+face+disruptions+Main+Street+station+upgraded\/7796834\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\"> undergoing an\u00a018-month, $30-million upgrade<\/a> slated to begin in February. It will done in two phases and at least one entrance to remain open at all times.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming public hearing on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/186236631.html\" target=\"_blank\">South Surrey casino licence<\/a> on Monday is expected to draw a large crowd with opposition rising due to the perceived threat that the facility will pose to Surrey\u2019s ethnic communities.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A selected image from the Spacing Vancouver Flickr pool.
