Recognizable outside of their city limits, these intersections play host to significant historical events, define the culture of a place, and are the meeting point for diverse groups of people. Launching February 2013 at the Platform Gallery,\u00a0<i>Intersections<\/i>\u00a0celebrates the unique attributes of seven essential cross-streets throughout Vancouver through graphic design.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Seven Vancouver-based graphic\u00a0designers were invited to respond to a specified Vancouver intersection; Fraser &amp; Kingsway, Main &amp; Hastings, SE Marine &amp; Knight St., Davie &amp; Denman, Water &amp; Carrall, 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0&amp; Vine, Broadway &amp; Granville. \u201cWith\u00a0<i>Intersections,<\/i>\u00a0we created an opportunity to acknowledge the humble street intersection as a space that plays an integral role in Vancouver. Everyone has experienced these locations in some way,\u201d says Ross Milne, Platform Gallery Managing Director. \u201cSome of the intersections are infamous, some overlooked, but\u00a0are epicentres of vital communities,\u00a0suggesting\u00a0radically different attitudes and geographies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The contributors for\u00a0<i>Intersections<\/i>\u00a0reflect some of the best design talent in the city, representing notable agencies and studios that work regional and internationally in scope, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/10fourdesign.com\/\">10four Design<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glasfurdandwalker.com\/\">Glasfurd and Walker<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/post-projects.com\/\">Post Projects<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.setareh-shamdani.com\/\">Seterah Shamdani<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.statecreativegroup.com\/\">State Creative<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/workingformat.com\/\">Working Format<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zachbulick.com\/\">Zach Bulick<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each graphic designer created a large 36&#8243; x 54&#8243; poster that speaks to their own creativity and understanding of the assigned intersection. The contributors were asked to consider the present realities of the place, but to interpret the past and future of those locations, honouring the diversity of the communities. \u201cWe wanted to get away from a purely referential interpretation of these places and go deeper to examine, celebrate, analyze and critique what makes those intersections unique,\u201d says Grace Partridge, Platform Gallery Creative Director.<\/p>\n<p><i>Intersections<\/i>\u00a0will reveal all seven posters at an off-site opening reception\u00a0<b>January 31, 2013<\/b>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinatownexperiment.com\/\">Chinatown Experiment<\/a>\u00a0(434 Columbia),\u00a0<b>6pm \u2013 9pm<\/b>. The evening is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>As of February 1,\u00a0<i>Intersections<\/i>\u00a0will be on exhibition at the Canada Line\u2019s Platform Gallery, located underground at Waterfront Station.<\/p>\n<p>The Platform Gallery, and the\u00a0<i>Intersections<\/i>\u00a0exhibition are conceived and curated by Vancouver design and typography studio\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/workingformat.com\/\">Working Format<\/a>\u00a0together with Lizzy Karp, Anthony Casey, and Luis Sanchez.
