Image courtesy of\u00a0waferboard.<\/small><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/ianboyko\/8390036340\/in\/pool-replace\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NeighbourhoodWatch_logo\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/NeighbourhoodWatch_logo.gif\" width=\"600\" height=\"72\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><em>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A new shelter in Whalley, expanded drop-in services, a better mix of housing types, and more outreach services are just some of the <a title=\"Surrey tables 10-year homelessness strategy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.surreyleader.com\/news\/189056381.html\">recommendations being made in a new city plan to address homelessness<\/a> in <strong>Surrey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kamloops<\/strong> City hall is hoping to keep its social media momentum going as public meetings on the budget continue.\u00a0Last week&#8217;s meeting on parks, recreation and cultural services was <a title=\"City encourages use of social media in budget sessions\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kamloopsnews.ca\/article\/20130128\/KAMLOOPS0101\/130129841\/-1\/kamloops0101\/city-encourages-use-of-social-media-in-budget-sessions\">live-streamed with an online chat room and discussed on Twitter <\/a>with the hashtag\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kamloopsnews.ca\/article\/20130128\/KAMLOOPS0101\/130129841\/-1\/kamloops0101\/city-encourages-use-of-social-media-in-budget-sessions#\">#kamloopsbudget<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Residents concerned with proposed amendments to <a title=\"White Rock public-hearing decision angers residents\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peacearchnews.com\/news\/189243501.html\">a project planned for the former <strong>White Rock<\/strong> Muffler<\/a> site will soon have a chance to voice those concerns.\u00a0But council\u2019s move to authorize a public hearing on the issue was not welcomed by area residents who had been heartened by a\u00a0<a title=\"White Rock rejects proposed changes to muffler-site project\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peacearchnews.com\/news\/187204051.html\" target=\"_blank\">land-use committee decision<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month to recommend rejecting the amendment as written.<\/p>\n<p>With City budget discussions fast approaching, <strong>Courtenay<\/strong> staff recommend a <a title=\"Time for Courtenay to improve below-ground infrastructure\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comoxvalleyrecord.com\/news\/189292711.html\">focus on underground infrastructure upgrades <\/a>in the coming years.\u00a0Council is expected to start budget talks later this month, and during this week&#8217;s committee of the whole meeting, staff updated council on the general status of city infrastructure and strategic improvements.<\/p>\n<p>A proposed new two-storey,\u00a0 heritage-style office complex for the western entrance to <strong>Fort Langley<\/strong> was rejected Monday after a majority of Township councillors <a title=\"Not enough heritage in building design\" href=\"http:\/\/www.langleytimes.com\/news\/189073881.html\">complained the exterior didn\u2019t look heritage enough<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A selected image from the Spacing Vancouver Flickr pool.
