But a<a title=\"A Region United: 3 cities, 7 districts, 2 towns and a township in Greater Victoria\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vicnews.com\/news\/201075341.html\">n organized and motivated group of residents is igniting a grassroots push to turn ideas into reality<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The District of <strong>Summerland<\/strong> has initiated <a title=\"City uses social networks to grow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.castanet.net\/edition\/news-story-89920-27-.htm#89920\">a unique community engagement program<\/a> to create an updated Urban Growth Strategy that responds to recent changes and emerging challenges in the area.\u00a0Residents are invited to share their ideas and priorities through a range of creative activities, from online surveys and polls to family\u2010friendly events and community dialogues.<\/p>\n<p>A local cycling advocacy group is calling for the missing link to be built for <a title=\"Seeking a safer ride through Burnaby's Big Bend\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bclocalnews.com\/news\/201471611.html\">a safe bike route between New Westminster and South Vancouver<\/a>.\u00a0Andrew Feltham, chair of the <strong>New Westminster<\/strong> branch of HUB (formerly the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition), wrote to Transportation Minister Mary Polak about the proposal, which was prompted by an exploratory ride last fall by cyclists from HUB.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin Grieve commends his fellow members of the <strong>coastal regional district chairs<\/strong> (CRDC) for <a title=\"In 'never-ending story,' coastal regional district chairs express concerns about ferries\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comoxvalleyrecord.com\/news\/200503931.html#.UVsyAsf0MT0.twitter\">raising concerns about the ferry system<\/a> in recent meetings with Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Mary Polak and with Opposition MLAs.\u00a0But he says the ferry situation is a &#8220;never-ending story&#8221; that has been played out over the last two years, first with former MOTI minister Blair Lekstrom and now with Polak.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">A selected image from the Spacing Vancouver Flickr pool.
