{"id":20179,"date":"2013-04-12T13:00:46","date_gmt":"2013-04-12T20:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/?p=20179"},"modified":"2013-04-19T10:56:29","modified_gmt":"2013-04-19T17:56:29","slug":"neighbourhood-watch-74","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/2013\/04\/12\/neighbourhood-watch-74\/","title":{"rendered":"Neighbourhood Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/ianboyko\/8390036340\/in\/pool-replace\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NeighbourhoodWatch_logo\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/NeighbourhoodWatch_logo.gif\" width=\"600\" height=\"72\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><em>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Exactly 20 years after becoming the first B.C. municipality to allow secondary suites in single-family homes,\u00a0the <strong>City of North Vancouver<\/strong>\u00a0has posted another provincial housing first.\u00a0On Monday city council voted to <a title=\"City gives green light to secondary suites in duplexes\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northshoreoutlook.com\/news\/202340371.html\" target=\"_blank\">legalize secondary suites in the city\u2019s 471 duplex buildings<\/a>, in a move that effectively renders each building a potential legal triplex or fourplex.\u00a0The decision also affects 200 additional properties already zoned for duplex use but which nonetheless contain either a single-family home or no structure at all.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in the <strong>Thompson-Nicola Regional District<\/strong> now have <a title=\"TNRD makes web mapping available to public\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kamloopsnews.ca\/article\/20130410\/KAMLOOPS0101\/130409787\/-1\/kamloops0101\/tnrd-makes-web-mapping-available-to-public\" target=\"_blank\">24-hour access to building permits, property information and other regional data thanks to a new web application<\/a>.\u00a0As of this week, myRegionView allows users to search map features in the TNRD and member municipalities, create a printable map and find services offered with the regional district. These include libraries, water systems and transfer stations.<\/p>\n<p>A new pathway that will connect Chaffey Avenue and Halley Avenue in <strong>Burnaby<\/strong> is going through, despite former concerns of tenants being forced out.\u00a0The <a title=\"Burnaby moves ahead with South Burnaby pathway\" href=\"http:\/\/www.burnabynow.com\/travel\/History+Brentwood+Town+Centre+revealed\/8199916\/story.html#ixzz2QHPqtOWM\" target=\"_blank\">Chaffey-Halley pathway will sit on city-owned property <\/a>in the South Burnaby neighbourhood near Chaffey-Burke Elementary School. The city developed a pathway concept and presented it for public input in February.<\/p>\n<p>Natural shade along [<strong>Penticton<\/strong>&#8216;s]\u00a0Okanagan Lake waterfront is going to be just a memory this summer and for many summers to come.\u00a0That was one of the things the public found out at a pre-construction information session Tuesday.\u00a0About 70 people packed a small room and the hallway outside at the Penticton Lakeside Resort to hear how the\u00a0<a title=\"Penticton officials outline changes taking shape along Okanagan Lake waterfront\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pentictonwesternnews.com\/news\/202595391.html\" target=\"_blank\">construction along the Okanagan Lake waterfront<\/a>\u00a0will affect use of the popular area.<\/p>\n<p>Five sleek and slender machines full of energy are now ready for electricity-starved motorists in <strong>Richmond<\/strong>.\u00a0<a title=\"Electric vehicles get free power\" href=\"http:\/\/www.richmondreview.com\/news\/202721371.html\" target=\"_blank\">New electric vehicle charging stations have been installed<\/a> at Richmond City Hall and the Richmond Olympic Oval, along with community centre parking lots in Steveston, Thompson and Cambie.\u00a0Owners of electric vehicles can fuel up for free at the stations, which offer two Level 2 plug-ins, capable of fully charging a vehicle in four to six hours.
