{"id":22615,"date":"2013-08-23T12:00:06","date_gmt":"2013-08-23T19:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/?p=22615"},"modified":"2013-08-23T11:12:07","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T18:12:07","slug":"neighbourhood-watch-93","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/2013\/08\/23\/neighbourhood-watch-93\/","title":{"rendered":"Neighbourhood Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NeighbourhoodWatch_logo\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/NeighbourhoodWatch_logo.gif\" width=\"600\" height=\"72\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wi-Fi hot spots are expected to soon be popping up all over [<strong>Campbell River<\/strong>] after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.campbellrivermirror.com\/news\/220410241.html\">council took Shaw up on its offer to provide free wireless service around the community<\/a>.\u00a0Shaw approached the city with a proposal to deliver free Wi-Fi in Campbellton, Willow Point, the downtown core, and at several city-owned facilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Delta<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.delta-optimist.com\/news\/delta-staying-away-from-gmo-controversy-1.598514#sthash.jKv1Yf2b.dpuf\">isn&#8217;t following Richmond&#8217;s lead in passing a motion banning genetically modified food crops<\/a> from being grown in the community.\u00a0Delta&#8217;s land base is mostly agricultural, but municipal council here has stayed away from the controversy over GMOs.\u00a0Council agreed it needed more information on the issue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whistler<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whistlerquestion.com\/article\/20130822\/WHISTLER01\/130829997\/-1\/whistler01\/additional-2000-hours-of-transit-service-hours-to-be-added-this\">bus users will see an additional 2,000 annual-service hours implemented this winter<\/a>, following a monitoring period that identified the top priorities for transit expansion.The majority of the additional service hours, 1,350, will go towards improving service reliability and addressing overcrowding on resort buses.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kamloopsnews.ca\/article\/20130819\/KAMLOOPS0101\/130819884\/-1\/kamloops0101\/downtown-intersection-to-become-new-home-of-abstract-artwork\">large sculpture from <strong>Kamloops<\/strong> Art Gallery&#8217;s permanent collection is quietly moving into its new home this week<\/a>.\u00a0Edmonton sculptor Peter Hide donated the piece, entitled After Rome, and it will be lifted by crane onto the northeast corner of Victoria Street and Second Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>[<strong>Prince George<\/strong>]\u00a0council is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pgfreepress.com\/news\/220730851.html\">considering instituting a bylaw\u00a0 making\u00a0 the city outdoors smoke-free <\/a>after representatives of the Canadian Cancer Society spoke at Monday\u2019s meeting to explain the benefits the action would bring to the community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.
