{"id":22826,"date":"2013-09-20T14:44:19","date_gmt":"2013-09-20T21:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/?p=22826"},"modified":"2013-09-20T14:46:06","modified_gmt":"2013-09-20T21:46:06","slug":"22826","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/2013\/09\/20\/22826\/","title":{"rendered":"Neighbourhood Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NeighbourhoodWatch_logo\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/NeighbourhoodWatch_logo.gif\" width=\"600\" height=\"72\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Proponents of the Gibsons Public Market are counting on some well-heeled Coast residents to open their wallets now that the <strong>Town of Gibsons<\/strong> has signed on as a potential partner.\u00a0After an in-camera meeting on Sept. 10, council passed a resolution to <a title=\"Town signs partnership deal for public market\" href=\"http:\/\/www.coastreporter.net\/article\/20130920\/SECHELT0101\/309209975\/town-signs-partnership-deal-for-public-market\" target=\"_blank\">enter into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the public market proponents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>City of Colwood<\/strong> doubled up on <a title=\"Colwood scores two awards at this week's UBCM in Vancouver\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vicnews.com\/neighbourhoods\/west_shore\/224468991.html\" target=\"_blank\">acclaim for its leadership in energy planning and efficiency plus the use of renewable energy<\/a>.\u00a0At the Union of BC Municipalities convention, Steve Thompson, Minister of Forests, presented the city with a Climate and Energy Action award for commitment to and implementation of the Solar Colwood program. The next day, Coralee Oakes, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development presented Colwood with the Community Excellence Award for leadership and innovation in climate action.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"More density in Albion pitched\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mapleridgenews.com\/news\/224485401.html\" target=\"_blank\">Smaller lots, more houses, and more developer cash for amenities are slated for the Albion area<\/a>, if a new bylaw gets through <strong>Maple Ridge<\/strong> council.\u00a0A public hearing was held on Tuesday evening in council chambers about a density bonus for land developers, which would include an amenities fee of $3,100 for every lot taking advantage of smaller minimum sizes.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>City of Vancouver<\/strong> is planning a new building bylaw that, for the first time in Canada, will require all new homes to be adaptable for seniors and people with disabilities.\u00a0The city <a title=\"Vancouver to make accessibility for seniors, disabled a priority in new house construction\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouversun.com\/health\/Vancouver+make+accessibility+priority+house+construction\/8935628\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">wants all new single-family, townhouse and laneway homes to meet minimum accessibility standards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some of <strong>Abbotsford<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<a title=\"Issues of homelessness ongoing in Abbotsford\" href=\"http:\/\/www.abbynews.com\/news\/224108811.html\" target=\"_blank\">homeless residents have returned to the \u201cHappy Tree\u201d<\/a> \u2013 but not everyone is happy about the relocation of the Gladys Avenue homeless camp.\u00a0The tree \u2013 located across from the Salvation Army \u2013 was the centre of a controversy in June after\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abbynews.com\/news\/223472621.html\" target=\"_blank\">city crews dumped manure<\/a>\u00a0on the site in an apparent effort to deter the homeless.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A weekly roundup of noteworthy news in municipalities across B.C.
