Individuals and groups are invited to submit their unique ideas for a creative, sustainable, outdoor public space capable of supporting mobile food vendors. Check out the details and submit your design for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.surrey.ca\/culture-recreation\/13125.aspx\">2014 PARKit Design Challenge<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Through PARKit, the\u00a0City of Surrey transforms parts of parking lots and\u00a0underutilized areas into temporary pop-up parks, with\u00a0vibrant urban\u00a0green spaces. When PARKit activations pop up,\u00a0they animate boring grey\u00a0spaces into exciting people places.\u00a0PARKit\u00a0also provides\u00a0the opportunity to\u00a0grab a bite\u00a0from a\u00a0mobile food truck.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the City expanded the program with the PARKit Design Challenge,\u00a0a public competition\u00a0for the design and installation of a summertime pop-up park.\u00a0Check out the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.surrey.ca\/culture-recreation\/13460.aspx\">winning design and other finalists.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Contact us by email at <a href=\"mailto:beautification@surrey.ca\" target=\"_blank\">beautification@surrey.ca<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to seeing more great submissions this year!<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>PARKit History<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The first PARKit was activated in mid April, 2012, in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.surrey.ca\/culture-recreation\/5048.aspx\">North Surrey Recreation Centre<\/a>\u00a0parking lot.\u00a0 It was\u00a0developed as a pilot project\u00a0in coordination with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.surrey.ca\/partyfortheplanet\/7663.aspx\">Party for the Planet<\/a>.\u00a0Our first activation was such a great success that a second stand-alone\u00a0installation was activated later that summer.\u00a0 In 2013, the introduced the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.surrey.ca\/culture-recreation\/13125.aspx\">PARKit Design Challenge<\/a>, a successful public design-build competition for the a summertime pop-up park.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Each PARKit activation\u00a0has included a number of food trucks and vendors.\u00a0 The idea was that\u00a0we would test out the feasibility of a\u00a0permanent food truck program in the City, which we are now working on!\u00a0 Some of the food carts that have attended PARKit included\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dougiedog.com\/\">Dougie Dog<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/AllAboutGrill\" target=\"_blank\">It&#8217;s All About Grill<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Bubble-Gallo-Bubble-Tea\/299875436696041\">Bubble Gallo<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/numnumfoodcart\" target=\"_blank\">Num Num Food Cart<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/guanacotruck\" target=\"_blank\">Guanaco Truck<\/a>.\u00a0We believe that the more variety and diversity the better.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>PARKit\u00a0is coordinated by the Parks Planning &amp; Design\u00a0section at the City of Surrey.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Surrey is pleased to announce the return of our pop-up park design-build competition, the\u00a02014 PARKit Design Challenge.
