It will only happen if we work together to make it an issue that can&#8217;t be ignored.<\/p>\n<h3>Our vision includes:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Affordable transportation for all that insulates people and businesses from turbulent oil prices<\/li>\n<li>A healthy economy with less congested transit that draws highly skilled employees to the region and creates and attracts innovative companies.<\/li>\n<li>More local green jobs that people can feel proud of.<\/li>\n<li>Leadership in reducing carbon emissions to meet or exceed targets set in provincial law and to decrease the severity of climate disasters.<\/li>\n<li>Better access and quality of life for people with disabilities and the growing population of elderly people who no longer drive<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Our main objectives for the coming year are to:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #505054;\">Build a strong ongoing coalition that has the capacity, resources and relationships to mobilize public support for transit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #505054;\">Encourage provincial, federal and regional decision makers to significantly increase transit funding and adopt policies supporting transit, cycling and walking.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #505054;\">Play a central role in winning the Metro Vancouver transit referendum expected in June 2015, using the campaign to build relationships with individuals and organizations needed for future efforts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Experience and Skills<\/h2>\n<p>To move the organization and these initiatives forward, we are seeking people who are passionate about transit to provide leadership, experience and advice in one or more of the following areas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Financing and Fundraising<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing and implementing fundraising strategies both for organizational development and specific campaigns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Campaigning<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Organizing and coordinating grassroots advocacy campaigns<\/li>\n<li>Operating successful political campaigns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Organizational Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing coalitions and non-profit societies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Coalition Building<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contacts in business, community organizations, and other non-profit groups<\/li>\n<li>The ability to network and quickly make new contacts and connections<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Government Relations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience in and contacts with municipal, provincial and federal politicians and staff<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with political parties\u2019 policy development processes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Time Requirements<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Board business:\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"color: #505054;\">Basic board business will require an average of one hour per week and consist mainly of responding to email messages on organizational business.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Additional Responsibilities:<\/strong>\u00a0Board members can undertake further organizational responsibilities as detailed above as their time allows.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Board Meetings:\u00a0<\/strong>Monthly meetings and one in person strategic planning meeting per year on a weekend.
