The <\/span>Our Community Our Plan<\/a> (OCOP) <\/span>group of concerned residents monitoring the Grandview- Woodland Community Plan process has joined with the <\/span>Britannia Community Centre <\/span>to host an event addressing: <\/span><\/p>\n

DENSIFICATION: Options, Opportunities & Consequences<\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n

As Grandview-Woodland approaches the end game of the Community Plan process — the master plan that will govern development in Grandview-Woodland for the next thirty years \u2013 we all need to understand what more density in our neighbourhood might actually mean. How much of our neighbourhood are we willing to change to achieve the density goals of Vancouver City Planning? To help us understand this vital issue, <\/span>Our Community, Our Plan <\/span>& <\/span>Britannia Community Centre <\/span>have invited two experts to give presentations and to answer residents\u2019 questions at a special public meeting we urge you to attend. <\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting will be held from <\/span>7:00pm to 9:00pm on Wednesday, September 10<\/span>th <\/span>at Astorino\u2019s<\/span>, at the corner of Commercial & Venables. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our speakers are: <\/span><\/p>\n

Patrick Condon, Chair of the Masters of Urban Design Program at UBC. <\/span>Over more than 20 years of academic excellence, Patrick has worked to advance sustainable development options, and to increase the value of public collaboration. Patrick will speak about his ideas for a \u201cflat\u201d city that integrates with existing infrastructure and allows for a gradual low-rise densification where appropriate, eliminating the need for expensive transit options and high-rises. <\/span><\/p>\n

Richard Wozny <\/span>is a consultant to real estate developers, investors and the public sector. Over his career he has been involved in projects worth in excess of $100 billion. These projects include 500 shopping centres, thousands of acres of industrial development and residential sub-divisions, and hundreds of high-density residential and office towers. Richard\u2019s talk will be about how private development should pay for itself by contributing to new public infrastructure in order to ensure that growth, particularly in the form of towers, does not lead to reduced quality of life. <\/span><\/p>\n

This will be a unique opportunity to discuss alternative futures for our neighbourhood, and for the media to speak with residents. <\/span><\/p>\n
