The sentiment at the meeting was largely  opposed to the widening with many expressing a desire for a more compact  urban form.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a new series looking at the densest neighbourhoods in Atlantic Canada, Sean Gillis examines the built form of <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/2011\/09\/12\/atlantic-canadas-densest-neighbourhoods-st-johns\/\">downtown St. John&#8217;s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"sm\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-montreal.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Spacing Montreal put a spotlight on the new Quartier des Spectacle improvements this week. Alanah Heffez looks at <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/09\/12\/between-design-and-day-to-day-in-the-qds\/\">revisions<\/a> to the new infrastructure after a year of public exposure and profiles an <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/09\/11\/stip-tease-qds-what-is-your-vision-of-the-citys-core\/\">initiative<\/a> to get Montrealer&#8217;s to share their visions and memories of the area.  Joel Thibert looks at the processes and struggles of the City&#8217;s stated  commitment to keeping <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/09\/05\/taking-responsibility-for-the-quartier-des-spectacles-bike-path-debacle\/\">all forms of transportation open<\/a> in the area during extensive renovations.<\/p>\n<p>Devin Alfaro reflects on a summer of <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/08\/31\/new-bike-infrastructure-arrives-in-montreal\/\">cycling infrastructure improvements<\/a> in Montreal that included the city&#8217;s first bike boxes and innovative  strategies to solve conflicts between bike lanes and bus stops. Alfaro  discusses the new infrastructure and solicits feedback on its  effectiveness.<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"More...\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"More...\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"st\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/ottawa\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-toronto.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The controversial new proposal for development in the Toronto Port  Lands was addressed by both Matt Blackett and John Lorince this week.  Lorinc questioned whether <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/09\/12\/ford-takes-the-money-and-runs\/\">backing out<\/a> of the understanding with upper levels of government will hurt the City&#8217;s credibility as a partner. Matt Blackett posted a 24 <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/09\/15\/realityy-check-on-the-waterfront\/\">reality check<\/a> prepared by the group <em>Code Blue<\/em> that questions the logic for abandoning the existing plan.<\/p>\n<p>Through a fluke of Science, <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/09\/13\/impressed-by-doug-fords-backroom-vision-for-the-toronto-port-lands-take-a-look-at-mayor-bert-xanadus-vision-for-the-toronto-islands-the-islands-in-my-brain\/\">Mayor Bert Xanadu<\/a> once again speaks out from 1973 with his response to Doug Ford&#8217;s   proposed Port Lands plan. Impressed by the proposal, Xanadu parlays   Ford&#8217;s thinking into a strategy that will also eradicate the barren park   landscape of the Toronto Islands in favour of an international tourist   mecca of kitschy commerce.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-21274\" href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/?attachment_id=21274\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spacingmedia.com\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-vancouver.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gordon Price&#8217;s <em>Price Points <\/em>feature takes a look at <a href=\"..\/2011\/09\/12\/price-points-gathering-space\/\">Jack Poole Plaza<\/a>,   the public space on top of the new convention center expansion.
