There will be an opening lecture and a keynote lecture, followed by a moderated Q&amp;A with three dynamic women:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opening Speakers<\/strong><em>:<\/em>\u00a0frida&amp;frank, a group of female urban catalysts looking to change people&#8217;s perspectives on public space. frida&amp;frank&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Haley Roeser<\/strong> &amp;\u00a0<strong>Eleanor Arkin<\/strong>\u00a0discuss the importance of\u00a0<em>play<\/em>\u00a0and in having people directly engage with public space, weather, and each other.<\/p>\n<p><em>Keynote speaker:\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><strong>Kamala Todd,<\/strong> Aboriginal Community Planner and film maker<\/p>\n<h3>Bios:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Kamala Todd\u00a0<\/strong>is a Metis-Cree urban Geographer who makes films and writes about the stories and cultures layered within the Indigenous lands upon which she is a grateful guest. Born and raised in the beautiful lands of the h\u0259n\u0313q\u0313\u0259min\u0313\u0259m\u0313 and Skwxw\u00fa7mesh-speaking people (also known as Vancouver), she has a Masters degree in Geography (UBC) and an ever-growing list of documentary films and community arts projects. For six years she was the City of Vancouver\u2019s Aboriginal Social Planner, and she continues to work with the City as an independent consultant to help build relationships within the context of (re)conciliation.<\/p>\n<p>Kamala created\u00a0<em>Storyscapes<\/em>, a community arts and storytelling project to help bring greater recognition for the many diverse stories of Indigenous and urban Aboriginal people in Vancouver. This included a partnership with NFB to create\u00a0<em>Our City Our Voices<\/em>, an oral history video project recording Indigenous stories with youth and Elders, as well as residents in the Downtown Eastside.<\/p>\n<p>Kamala\u2019s film credits include\u00a0<em>Indigenous Plant Diva<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Cedar and Bamboo<\/em>, RELAW: Living Indigenous Laws, and\u00a0<em>Sharing our Stories: the Vancouver Dialogues Project<\/em>. She writes and directs for children\u2019s\u00a0television, including the Indigenous science series\u00a0<em>Coyote&#8217;s Crazy Smart Science Show<\/em>\u00a0and the Cree language series\u00a0<em>Nehiyawetan<\/em>, both on APTN. She created a video series about Indigenous law for UVic\u2019s Indigenous Law Research Unit.\u00a0Her most recent published piece is entitled, \u201cThis Many-storied Land\u201d, in the 2016 book,\u00a0<em>In This Together: Fifteen Stories of Truth and Reconciliation<\/em>. Kamala lives with her partner and two sons on the Sunshine Coast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Haley Roeser,<\/strong> co-founder of frida&amp;frank, graduated from UBC in 2017. Her urban research and editorial work has been published on\u00a0<em>Pop-Up City,\u00a0smart magazine,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>CityStudio.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eleanor Arkin<\/strong>, co-founder of frida&amp;frank,\u00a0designer\u00a0and cook,\u00a0graduated from UBC SALA&#8217;s Environmental Design Program in 2016.
