You are invited to a free workshop on neighbourhood emergency preparedness!<\/span><\/p>\n

In Vancouver, we face more risk of earthquakes than we like to admit. Luckily, there is a lot we can do to prepare for emergency situations. After a disaster, emergency kits will help us address basic needs such as food and water. Other crucial needs, including communication and asset-mapping, will require teamwork and community organization. What could that look like in your neighbourhood?<\/p>\n

Ann Pacey, coordinator of the Dunbar Earthquake and Emergency Preparedness (DEEP) group, will inspire us by sharing her knowledge of the City of Vancouver\u2019s resources and explaining local initiatives funded by 100 Resilient Cities. She will describe the unique community-driven Dunbar Community Centre Disaster Support Hub model, which was based on Seattle Emergency Hubs, and is one of a kind in Vancouver.<\/span><\/p>\n

Afterwards, a group of Emily Carr and UBC students will present their NeighbourHub concept, a design currently in progress for the Engineers for a Sustainable World CommUnity Resilience Design Challenge. They are excited to propose a tool for neighbourhood resilience and are looking for your input in the co-creation process for A Better Way in Home Care<\/a>.<\/p>\n
