Or was it?<\/h3>\r\n<h2>Details<\/h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>When:\u00a0<\/strong>Thursday, February 6th, 2020 \u2013 7:00 to 9:00 PM<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Where:<\/strong>\u00a0SFU Woodward\u2019s Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre, 149 W Hastings St., Vancouver, BC<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Registration: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/2019-year-in-review-vcpc.eventbrite.com\/\">https:\/\/2019-year-in-review-vcpc.eventbrite.com\/<\/a><\/p>\r\n<h2>Description<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/vancouverplanning.ca\/\">Vancouver City Planning Commission<\/a>, in partnership with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/sfuwoodwards\/community-engagement.html\"> SFU&#8217;s Vancity Office of Community Engagement<\/a>, is bringing together some of the city\u2019s top urbanists and advocates to look back 12-months in order to see where Vancouver is heading.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The panel on February 6, 2020 includes<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sarahblyth\"> <strong>Sarah Blyth<\/strong><\/a> from the front lines of the opioid overdose crisis; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BuiltJustice\"><strong>Stephanie Allen<\/strong><\/a>, a champion of community housing; <strong>Ray Spaxman<\/strong>, the conscience of Vancouver\u2019s planning community; and, <a href=\"https:\/\/decolonizingpractices.org\/michelle-nahanee\/\"><strong>Michelle Lorna Nahanee <\/strong><\/a>(S\u1e35wx\u0331w\u00fa7mesh), an Indigenous change maker. The panel will be moderated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/dialogue\/about-us\/associates1\/am-johal--director--sfu-s-vancity-office-of-community-engagement.html\"><strong>Am Johal<\/strong><\/a>, Director, SFU&#8217;s Vancity Office of Community Engagement.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Join the panel for the fifth annual Year-In-Review as they delve into the planning actions, events, decisions and developments of 2019. Find out whether the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/chronology.vancouverplanning.ca\/emerging-milestones-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">milestones of 2019<\/a>\u00a0proposed by a VCPC committee can withstand their scrutiny. Listen in as the panel discuss emerging trends in the evolution of the city that have not previously been recognized. Question some of Vancouver\u2019s most passionate city builders on their perspectives. Be part of the showdown.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3>Panelists<\/h3>\r\n<h4>\r\n\r\n<\/h4>\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Sarah Blythe<\/strong> is the Executive director of the Overdose Prevention Society and a mental health worker with the Portland Hotel Society. In both of these roles, Sarah works on the front lines of the opioid overdose crisis. Sarah is also the former chair of the Vancouver Park Board.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong data-rich-text-format-boundary=\"true\">Stephanie Allen <\/strong>is a founding director of Hogan\u2019s Alley Society. She has an undergraduate in Business and a master&#8217;s degree in Urban Studies. Stephanie and has worked for 18 years in real estate development in the US, Alberta and BC with the last 9 years focused on affordable housing as a critical part of equitable city-building.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Ray Spaxman<\/strong> is an architect and planner with over 50 years of experience. Ray is a former municipal planner in England, Toronto and Vancouver, where he was director of planning for the City of Vancouver from 1973 to 1989. Currently, Ray is the president of RSC Ltd., which provides planning and urban design advice in Canada and Internationally.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Michelle Nahanee<\/strong> (S\u1e35wx\u0331w\u00fa7mesh) works within the intersection of class, race, culture and creativity, focusing on social change through strategic communications and deep engagement. She founded Decolonizing Practices to actively undo colonial impacts. Her collaborations have influenced opinions, changed behaviours and mobilized community action.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3>Moderator<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Am Johal<\/strong> is the Director of SFU&#8217;s Vancity Office of Community Engagement and the Co-Director of the Community Engaged Research Initiative. He is co-author of Global Warming and the Sweetness of Life: A Tar Sands Tale with Matt Hern. Bike stalls are available outside the main entrance. There is an EasyPark lot located across from the centre at 65 West Cordova Street. There are washrooms located on all floors of the building.
