This week profiling the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/2011\/10\/11\/atlantic-canadas-densest-neighbourhoods-spring-garden-queen-street\/\">most densely populated neighbourhood<\/a> in the Maritimes, Halifax&#8217;s Spring Garden\/ Queen Street area.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Last week&#8217;s profiled crowd-sourcing project to attach stories to a  series of old photographs unearthed in the Nova Scotia archives produced  some interesting results. Lauren Oostveen reveals the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/2011\/10\/11\/a-history-mystery-island-identified\/\">intriguing story <\/a>of one of the series&#8217; most interesting photographs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"sm\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-montreal.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The<em> Montage du Jour <\/em>featured several interesting contrasts in commercial buildings this week, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/10\/16\/montage-du-jour-edifice-commercial-au-coin-des-rues-sainte-catherine-est-et-dorion\/\">evolution of a grocery stor<\/a>e over the past several decades.<\/p>\n<p>For several days Guillaume St-Jean&#8217;s <em>Montage du Jour<\/em> focused on the fascinating changes brought about by the construction of the massive <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/10\/13\/montage-du-jour-intersection-des-rues-de-la-visitation-et-bonaparte\/\">Maison Radio-Canada<\/a> complex in the early 1970&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"More...\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"More...\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"st\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/ottawa\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-toronto.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Two posts this week complimented the upcoming release of the food  issue of the Spacing Magazine. Jessica Lemieux tells the story of how a  vegetable garden <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/10\/11\/building-community-one-veggie-at-a-time\/\">built community <\/a>for a newcomer to the city. Luca de Franco uses the <em>Headspace <\/em>feature to interview Debbie Field, executive director of the innovative organization <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/10\/13\/headspace-debbie-field-foodshare\/\">Foodshare<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Bozikovic uses the <em>No Mean City <\/em>column to profile a fascinating New York City program pre-qualifying <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/10\/13\/no-mean-city-an-idea-we-should-steal-from-new-york\/\">high quality architects<\/a> for local public works projects to support local firms and make the most of limited budgets.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-21274\" href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/vancouver\/?attachment_id=21274\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spacingmedia.com\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-vancouver.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brian Gould reports back from the third <a href=\"..\/2011\/10\/10\/vancouver-helps-launch-the-canu\/\">annual conference of the CanU<\/a>,    the Council for Canadian Urbanism.
