(<em><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.ca\/maps?q=Park+Place+666+Burrard+Vancouver&amp;hl=en&amp;ll=49.284791,-123.12015&amp;spn=0.001443,0.002441&amp;sll=49.247725,-123.08899&amp;sspn=0.184897,0.312424&amp;t=h&amp;hq=Park+Place+666+Burrard+Vancouver&amp;radius=15000&amp;z=19\" target=\"_blank\">Map here<\/a><\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/spacingmedia.com\/spacingvancouver\/wp-content\/uploads\/features\/pricepoints-feature-VAN.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"72\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Yazm\u00edn Hern\u00e1ndez Ba\u00f1uelas, Daniel Martin <\/strong>and<strong> Kevin Jingyi Zhang<\/strong> explain why.\u00a0 They are\u00a0all SCARP* students in a course conducted by Larry Beasley &#8211; and produced this video as their\u00a0assignment: an\u00a0analysis of a chosen\u00a0urban space\u00a0in the city&#8217;s core.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FbO51NbDkQc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For urbanists of a certain age, you might recognize the similarity to a truly seminal video by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_H._Whyte\" target=\"_blank\">William Whyte<\/a>, who pioneered time-lapse photography to analyse New York&#8217;s public spaces, in particular the Seagram Building&#8217;s plaza on Park Avenue.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While working with the New York City Planning Commission in 1969, Whyte began to wonder how newly planned city spaces were actually working out \u2013 something that no one had previously researched. This curiosity led to the Street Life Project, a pioneering study of pedestrian behavior and city dynamics.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more-->In the late sixties, he produced the\u00a0&#8220;The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces &#8211; The Street Corner&#8221; for the Municipal Art Society:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/6821934?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=ff5f26\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/6821934\">William H.
