Bogus appeals to the law are a common stratagem for those who do not want posters. This pole in Kensington market has been crudely marked in crayon with a "post no bill" message. At the bottom, the word "bylaw" or "By Law" is scrawled to give the message greater potency (closeup on the right).
In fact, the current by-law allows postering on public utility poles such as this one.
